Sometimes, Winter can be intimidating, and we didn’t want Spring to get the wrong idea, like we actually wanted a polar vortex for 6 months out of the year.
Before we explain some things about springs, it’s important to state that we were obsessed with anything else that involves a small motor and a belt a long time ago. Our parent company, Conveyor Installations, also located in Geneva, has been in business for more than 30 years. That’s a lot of mechanical experience, so we truly are your installation experts, which now, leads us to the topic of the blog, springs. Most garages have them, but not too many people know what they do, how they wind, and that a faulty spring is the reason for most garage door repairs.
What does a garage door spring do?
Even before the opener and the chain, the spring is responsible for the majority of the leg work of opening and closing your garage door. It is also one of the most dangerous mechanical mechanisms in your house. Even for our technicians, when they are winding new springs, they use special tools and extreme caution to ensure their safety.
If my springs are noisy, does that mean they need to be replaced?
No, not necessarily. Again, anyone should use extreme caution when going anywhere near garage springs, but if you’d like to spray them with a lubrication, DO NOT USE WD-40! It is actually a degreaser, what you need is a lithium-based spray, found at the Geneva Ace Hardware. If the noise continues, then it’s time to call 1-800-Tek-Teks!
Understanding the components of your garage door can save you time and money, especially if you’re dealing with Joe Schmo The Garage Door Man who might try and rip you off. We look forward to educating you and answering all your questions. We’re always available at email@example.com
Trento Series by Silvelox
Like an Italian exchange student that commands attention every time she walks into a High School cafeteria, our new Italian-designed-and-crafted Trento series by Silvelox is promised to turn heads. Presented by Amarr, these are not your typical garage doors, we refer to them as “la porta del garage”, because of their exceptional craftsmanship and innovation in making the most of the space you have. Andddd, they look super fancy, they must be European.
In the USA, our garages don’t just house our automobiles, they harbor our sports equipment, our fishing-poles, and our endless boxes of Christmas decorations. Our European counter parts don’t share the same affinity for “stuff” like we do, and in the small one-car garage that most EU families have, they strive for organization and compartmentalizing. This is where the Silvelox’s ingenuity comes alive.
No springs, no tracks and no rails.
This low-maintenance option also is also ideal for those with limitations when it comes to space. Those in the historic neighborhoods of Geneva, Batavia and Saint Charles will agree that they are cramped, especially when their vehicle is inside. With the Trento series, there is no opener affixed to the ceiling, and no track for the garage to roll on to. Take a look and see how easily this model folds up.
AAA DoorTeks Garage Door Contest
Remember on Sesame Street, when they would highlight a number accompanied by personified & animated number? Well today we’re a little bit obsessed with the number 25.
What is so good about the number 25?
Manganese is one of our favorite elements, with an atomic number of 25. Manganese is essential to iron and steel production by virtue of its sulfur-fixing, deoxidizing, and alloying properties. This is extremely important to us at AAA DoorTeks because of our steel “Carriage House” garage door. On the surface, it looks like a traditional Carriage-style, but mechanically, is a sturdy and reliable work-horse that will provide reliability.
2. Super Smash Brothers Melee!
If you know anything about fun, you know about what is simply referred to as “Melee” on GameCube. With 25 characters to choose from, it makes any snow storm worth enduring. If you (or your teen) are still into gaming once it’s Spring, convert your garage into the ultimate personal arcade with LifeStyle Screen Doors. Easy to install, remove, and maintain, it is the ultimate breath of fresh air for any gamer.
3. It’s A Cullen Number!
25 is the smallest pseudo-prime satisfying the congruence 7n = 7 mod n. Whatever that means, it seems important, and we’re very thankful.
4. William McKinley
Since President’s Day was on Monday, we thought it important to honor our 25th president. Some interesting facts: he was the last face printed on the $500 bill, he was the first president to use the telephone to campaign, and was the first president to have his inauguration televised.
5. AAA DoorTeks’ Marketing Director, Ellen

Valentines Day at AAA DoorTeks 2014
February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day. The day before men and women scramble to identify the perfect box of chocolates & flowers to symbolize their love for one another. Personally, I use today to pledge my commitment to Kimmer’s by stocking up on a quart of their Maple Bacon ice cream while I verify that “Star Wars” is available on Netflix; but we all express ourselves differently.
To everyone that is expecting something from their sweetie, which catalogs did you casually circle & leave nonchalantly on the kitchen table? Did you just “happen” to leave the website up for 1-800-flowers? If you’re still stumped as to want you’ll expect tomorrow, or what you will so generously give, I have all the answers.
First of all, we have a $25-off coupon right now that expires this Saturday on February 15th, 2014. If you’re like me and my Forever-one, we LOVE deals. No matter what I purchase, my man is so much more attracted to me when I don’t pay full-price.
Secondly, if you’re at work right now, and you can hear your co-worker panting with the anguish as s/he deliberates what to purchase his sweetie, tell him or her about our $25-off coupon! Not only will they reward you with a life-time supply of break-room donuts, but we will reward you with a $25 Visa gift card for the referral.
Now, here are our gift ideas that would make any Tri-Cities resident customize the Kane County Cougars Stadium fireworks to display your name:
1. Keypad Entry
Reasonably priced, extraordinarily practical. This gadget can be installed for you in under an hour, allowing locked-out children and adults alike to access their home. Our 387LM Universal Keyless Entry is back-lit, completely wireless, weatherproof and is compatible with Genie®, Linear/Moore-o-Matic®, Stanley®, Overhead Door®, Wayne-Dalton®, Craftsman®, Chamberlain® and LiftMaster®.
What if, just what if, you were able to come home from your dinner on Valentine’s Day without waking the kids with your noisy garage door opener? What if you could give your lover the ability to (finally) sleep in, while you sneak out the garage to grab some last minute eggs for breakfast in bed? Unless your chain-driven garage door is the alarm that your teenagers have breached their curfew, our LiftMaster belt-driven openers come with a lifetime motor guarantee that will prove to be quiet and powerful.
Now imagine, you’re enjoying a peaceful dinner at Wok N’ Fire downtown Saint Charles, and as your date is about to devour the last piece of sashimi, you turn on your smartphone and say, “OH MY GARAGE, WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT!” S/he looks puzzled, “oh my garage?” s/he asks. Basking in the last moment of suspense and ignorance, you turn your phone around to reveal the MyQ mobile app for your brand-new, wi-fi enabled, smartphone-operative-garage-door-remote. With the LiftMaster 821LM MyQ Garage remote, you can monitor, open and close your garage door from anywhere and control home lighting, all from your smartphone, tablet or computer. S/he won’t be able to tell if it’s the wasabi or your present that is making her weep with happiness.
Maybe you haven’t secured your one true love yet, and you’re looking to woo him or her. We have plenty more suggestions from our Installation Experts and Product Specialists at 1-800-Tek-Teks on how you can provide the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for 2014. Good luck out there!
